Hey creators! We're very excited to launch this new way for bots, servers, and anything else to grow on top.gg! Today, we're officially starting a new kind of listing for Discord - a Discord News feed! This feed is a collection of your favourite bots' and server's updates, announcements, and ongoing events, all in one glance!
Unlike your bot or server pages, news is designed around being a time-sensitive piece of content. Because of that, we also took on a different approach compared to your usual vote-based system. As you may have seen with the previous update, announcements come with a little heart counter, This is used to get an idea of your organic reach together with the age of the article to push it upwards, this way, we expect you to have a new feed each week!
Your announcements are live on top.gg the moment you press the publish button, and with that comes benefits - not only do we broadcast it out to our userbase here on top, but we also prepare your announcement as an article for search engines and content detectors to better understand your product, so be sure to write information that will really hit home with your userbase!
I wanted to share a few recommendations around your news feed, to give both readers and creators a great experience. During testing these are also the best practices to get the highest shot to success!
For the best success, we recommend using headers where applicable to help your users skim! People only have so many hours in a day, and we instinctually want to make the best out of them, so make sure to grab catchy headlines which allows your readers to pick and choose what speaks to them!
Readers love a good coherent narrative, so make sure that your announcements follow a line that is easy to follow, once content becomes too intertwined or too lengthy of a read, users will stop reading and potentially miss the thing they've been looking for all this time! You don't want that to happen!
Since you control the flow of the article, we whole-heartedly recommend you to use the inline images to give examples of your new features, give a good sneak peek, or really drive your point home! People love a good visual so make sure to use them when you can!
This page is completely yours, and yours alone. (unless you share it with a team, then we will have to retract this statement) So make sure that you speak to the userbase you want to appeal to! Writing is a wonderful way to get users and more importantly: it builds a strong connection! So, speak from the heart, but think with your brain, feel free to use whatever tool you'd like, but, please don't curse or break any of our standard content guidelines, we'll have to dock points from your project otherwise.
As always, it's a pleasure helping you grow your project, and I'd love to see what clever and intuitive ways you will use this feed for.
