Pixel Fishing

A fishing game built on real fish from the creators of "Grow A Tree"

You start in the Philippines, in the mangroves, with a fixed-spool reel and twenty live shrimp. Every zone you open after that is a real place: the Fringing Reef, the Drop-off, Blue Water, the Philippine Trench. Thirty species live there, with their real names, their real weights and a field note each, from a mudskipper that drowns if you keep it underwater to a giant squid nobody photographed alive until 2004. All of it painted by hand.

How it plays

1. /fish: cast, watch the float, and reel when it goes under. Reel too early and you spook it; too late and it spits the hook. A common fish gives you three seconds. A legendary gives you three quarters of one.

2. Land it or lose it. Every catch rolls a real weight for its species. A fish heavier than your line snaps it. A perfect hookset is the only way to a trophy, the top five percent of what that species ever weighs.

3. Sell it, or tag it. Food fish sell by the kilo, in pesos. Protected species, half the roster, cannot be sold. Tag and release them for research credit, and learn why they are protected as you do.

4. Go deeper. Deeper water costs money and credit. Line that holds. Reels that give you a wider window. The fish get bigger, rarer and stranger, from the reef down to the trench.

5. Fill the book. /dex is your record book: every species, your best of each, one plate per zone. /show posts a card of your catch for the whole channel to see.

What's in it

• 30 real species across five depths of the Philippines, each with a field note that is actually true.

• Tackle that belongs to the sea. Four reels, four lines and five lures, sold where you stand and priced in pesos.
• Research credit for tagging protected fish: the endangered, the CITES-listed, the ones that just are not food.

• Five leaderboards, per server and worldwide: heaviest, logbook, volume, research, trophies.
• Nothing to buy. No shop for real money, and nothing that moves a leaderboard.

Slash commands only. Nothing to configure. Add it to a server, or to yourself and fish anywhere.

Getting started

Add the bot, type /fish, and press Reel when the float goes under. That is it. /help explains the rest whenever you want it.

Where it's going

The Philippines is the first sea. The North Atlantic and the Adriatic are already built and are waiting on their painters; each opens when its water is drawn. After that, more seas.
