Read a fortune cookie to help you on your journy.
Fortune cookies are fun!
Or at least, that's what Unix/BSD developers believed.
fortune(1)
is a command with a fair amount of tradition in the Unix world.
The way it works is that is that it selects a random text sequence from a special file (called a fortune file),
and prints it on your terminal. Users used to set it up so they would receive a message whenever they would log in
(or out), or just run the program whenever they got bored.
For the past four decades, Unix programmers and users have been filling fortune files chock full of entertaining
messages: from what you would find on a traditional fortune cookie, to quotes, jokes and even poetry. This is your
chance to take part in that tradition - straight from your comfy discord server. Just write !fortune
in any channel
the bot has access to (including DMs), and see what fate has in store for you!
This bot currently uses the fortune file hosted here (Creative Commons Attribution license).
While this collection is very good, it may not be to everyone's taste. More fortune files (and the ability to select your own) are in the works.
